Cop jailed for arrest assault in court bid

A SHAMED cop jailed for assaulting the victim of a gang attack and making up evidence yesterday began his appeal against his conviction.

Thomas Clark, 41, was caged for three months for assault for arresting James Carrie after he dialled 999 when his car and home were attacked by a mob in Milngavie, Glasgow, two years ago.

Clark's trial also heard he put together a "misleading" report on the incident with the intention of justifying his strong-arm tactics.

At the time a sheriff said Clark and colleague Andrew Glover, 29 - who was fined £1,000 for assaulting Neil McCallum during the same incident - had "struck at the heart of justice".

But at the Appeal Court in Edinburgh Clark's QC Paul McBride described the arrest as an "honest mistake".
