Police parking was out of line

It is the latest in a series of incidents where police drivers have come under fire for infringing parking rules.

And it is the second time officers have been caught out parking on double yellows to shop at the Tesco Express store on Quay Street.

In April last year we reported how a police van was pictured on the pavement on double yellow lines while a woman officer nipped into a Manchester supermarket to buy sandwiches.

Police said the vehicle was parked legally as it was being used to transport three prisoners and there was a problem with the rear door.

A reader took a picture of the van outside Tesco and the officer going into the supermarket, queuing and paying for food before going back out to the van to rejoin her male colleague who was driving the vehicle.

GMP insisted the officers had not broken the law, saying that while one officer checked the door the other took the opportunity to go into the shop as they had been working for six and a half hours with no break.

A week later we told how one officer was disciplined after parking his van in a disabled bay at a supermarket.

The vehicle was snapped by a shopper at Asda in Rochdale.

And last month the M.E.N reported how a cop was given a ticking off for parking his car in a disabled bay on Fountain Street.
