A police officer is to appear in court charged with sexually assaulting a woman in a police station.
Pc Gareth Roscoe, 24, is accused of sexual assault and misconduct in public office.
The alleged offences took place at Bolton Police Station.
Pc Roscoe has been summoned to appear in court.
In a statement Greater Manchester Police said: “During the early hours of September 19 2010, police at Bolton Police Station received a report that a woman had been sexually assaulted by an officer a short time earlier.
“Greater Manchester Police’s Professional Standards Branch is investigating and is liaising with the Crown Prosecution Service.
“The officer’s duties have been restricted while the complaint is investigated.”
A spokeswoman for the CPS confirmed that authorisation to charge Pc Roscoe had been approved on February 14.
The M.E.N. understands that the claims were made after the alleged victim’s boyfriend was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving.
The woman was taken to the police station while her boyfriend was dealt with.
