Pc accused of speed cover-up plot

A police officer from south east London has appeared in court accused of plotting with her boyfriend to cover for him speeding.

Anna Glynn, 29, a Pc with Bromley Safer Neighbourhood Team, allegedly tried to claim she was driving the BMW which was photographed over the limit to spare her boyfriend points on his licence.

Glynn and boyfriend Lee Wilton, 30, of Bexley, both deny conspiring to pervert the course of justice.

Southwark Crown Court heard that Glynn called Bedfordshire Police Central Ticketing Office to try to falsely claim she was driving the car, after receiving notice of the offence in April last year.

Glynn was told by the office that a photo taken from the speed camera appeared to show a man with short hair in the driver's seat.

The court was played a recording of a subsequent phone conversation between the couple, in which Wilton can be heard pleading with Glynn to cover for him, saying: "I can't have these points. Can't you cut your hair short? It looks better short anyway. I'm not kidding, get it done." Glynn is then heard telling him to "sort it out" himself.

Peter Lancaster, prosecuting, played a separate recording made in Glynn's office, in which she is heard telling colleagues she intended to take the penalty for Wilton to avoid him accruing more points.
Glynn, who continues to work on restricted duties, admitted she had discussed falsely claiming responsibility but denied that her actions amount to a perversion of the course of justice.

Mr Lancaster read out a transcript of a police interview with Wilton, in which he admitted discussing with Glynn the possibility of her taking the points, but denied pressuring her to do it.

He said in the interview: "I did it to save money on insurance for next year. I knew that it was me driving, but I thought if she took them it would save me the points, as I already had three. I know it is bad, but at the time I didn't think anything of it."
