The police watchdog is to investigate the circumstances around the death of a man after he was arrested.
The man, aged in his 50s, was arrested in Southall Avenue in Worcester on Monday, West Mercia Police said.
He was transferred to hospital in the city on Tuesday after being taken ill in custody. He was pronounced dead on Wednesday afternoon, a spokesman added.
The force has informed the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).
